Want to become a Smog Technician?

Automotive Training Schools is offering a comprehensive training program for people with NO Automotive Experience! We have a 18 week daytime program that begins with basic automotive skills and continues through manufacturer specific training. We then continue through all of the 6 California state certified smog courses required by the BAR to obtain an Advanced level smog technician license. We even prepare you for the state exam. We offer this in our Sacramento, Concord and San Jose training centers and is called the A.P.E.T. program (Automotive Performance and Emission Technology).

For those of you who already have at least 1 year experience in the automotive computer diagnostic trade, the following class certifications are now required for the basic and advanced smog licenses:

Required for a Basic License:

• Basic Clean Air Car Course - 68 Hours (includes OBD2 Diagnostic & 2003 smog update courses)
• ASE A6 Electrical certification (or A6 Alternative course - 26 hrs.)
• ASE A8 Engine Performance certification (or A8 Alternative course - 26 hrs.)
• ASE L1 Adv. Engine Performance certification (or L1 Alternative course - 30 hrs.)
• 2005 Smog Update Course - 16hrs.
  

Required for an Advanced License:

• The five courses listed above PLUS:
• Advanced Clean Air Car Course (A combination of the Dyno Transition & Advanced Emissions Diagnostics courses - 28 Hrs.)
